Chanukah Sugar Cookie
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 C Butter or Margarine (softened)\
- 2 C Sugar (white)
- 4 Eggs
- 1 t Vanilla (extract)
- 5 C Flour (all-purpose)
- 2 t Baking powder
- 1 t Salt
DIRECTIONS
- 1. In large bowl, cream together butter & sugar until smooth.
- 2. Beat in eggs & vanilla.
- 3. Stir in flour, baking powder & salt.
- 4. Cover & chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
- 5. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
- 6. Roll out dough on floured surface to 1/4-1/2 inch thick.
- 7. Cut into shapes with your favorite cookie cutters.
- 8. Place cookies one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- 9. Paint cookies using icing recipe below & your imagination, draw stars, Judah
the Maccabee,dreidels, Lion of Judah, Israeli flag, Hanukiah, candles & latkes, - 10. Bake 6 to 8 minutes; cool completely.
- 11. Recipe makes five dozen.
Colorful Egg Yolk Icing
- 1 Egg yolk
- 1/4 t Water
- Food coloring
DIRECTIONS
- Mix egg yolk & water & divide mix among several small cups.
- Tint each cup with food coloring to make several bright colors.
- Paint designs on unbaked sugar cookies with small paint brushes & bake cookies as
directed. - If icing thickens while standing, stir in several drops of water.
