- Passover 8th day
- Shavuos 2nd day

contact the synagogue you will be attending

WHEN DO YOU LIGHT MEMORIAL CANDLES?
ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH
The night before the Hebrew day of the anniversary
that your parent, spouse or child passed away
EXAMPLE
If the day the relative passed away was the 29 Shvat
& that day falls on a Tuesday
you light the candle on Monday after dark

IF THE FUNERAL WAS POSTPONED
The 1st year anniversary (Yahrzeit)
is on the Hebrew date on which the funeral took place

HOLIDAYS
You light a memorial candle for each parent, spouse or child
that has passed away, the night before each of the days listed below
- Yom Kippur
- Succos 8th day Shemini Ateres
- Passover 8th day
- Shavuos 2nd day
EXAMPLE
If Yom Kippur is on a Monday, it really starts Sunday at sundown.
So you you light memorial candle(s)
Sunday night before you light candles for Yom Kippur
IF IT IS A FRIDAY NIGHT
After you light the Yahrtzeit candle, light the Shabbas candles
& say the bracha “L’hadlik ner shel Shabbas”
IF IT IS A YOM TOV NIGHT
After you light the Yahrtzeit candle, light the Yom Tov candles
& say the bracha “L’hadlik ner shel Yom Tov”
