BMI is your Body Mass Index
- BMI is a measure of your body weight
in relation to your height for those
20 & older - Your BMI tells you if your weight is safe for your size
- As your BMI increases, so does the risk for some diseases like heart disease,
high blood pressure, stroke, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea,
varicose veins & some cancers

What does your 'number' mean?
- You are overweight with a BMI of 25 to 29.9
- You are obese with a BMI of 30 or above
- A BMI of less than 18.5 indicates you are thin for your height
- A BMI below 18 is considered underweight

Find Your BMI
There are several ways to find out your BMI
- When you see your doctor, they usually weigh you & check your height which gives them your BMI
- Buy a BMI Calculator
- Do the math yourself
1. Multiply your weight in pounds by 703.
2. Divide that answer by your height in inches.
3. Divide that answer by your height in inches again

BMI for athletes, body builders & weightlifters
- Does not measure body fat or muscle or consider the distribution of fat on
the body - This can often classify someone as overweight or obese who is lean &
muscular, which increases the overall body weight, but doesn't increase
body fat
