TYPES OF HEADACHES
SINUS HEADACHES
- With a sinus headache you usually get head pain along with nasal discharge, congestion, postnasal drip, a sore throat & sometimes a fever
- You don't vomit, you're not sensitive to light & you don't see light flashes
- You can often treat a sinus headache with over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen
(Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) - A warm shower might help with congestion, too
- See your doctor if you develop a fever If you get a fever along with the headache because
that may mean you have a sinus infection
ICE CREAM HEADACHES
- When you have some ice cream or a cold drink & your head like it is splitting open, that's an
ice cream headache or a 'brain freeze' - Drink something warm or hold your tongue to the roof of your mouth to warm it up and feel better
CLUSTER HEADACHES
- About six times as many men get cluster headaches as women
- Cluster headaches are the least common headache, but can be very severe
- You usually feel the pain behind or around one eye & it's so bad that you usually can't sit still
- These headaches often happen at the same time every day & the attacks can last a couple minutes or a few hours
- For relief, you can talk with your doctor about medications to help stop a headache & there
are preventive medications also
TENSION HEADACHES
- About 9 out of every 10 headaches diagnosed are tension headaches
- They’re usually caused by tight muscles at the back of your neck or head
- You’ll feel the pain across your forehead or the back of your head
- Stress is often the trigger
- Not getting enough sleep or poor posture,like from sitting at a computer all day, can make it worse
- Depression has also been linked with these headaches
- If tension headaches affect your day to day activities, talk to your doctor
- Medications like an antidepressant or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID)
may be prescribed to help prevent them
HANGOVER HEADACHES
- Alcohol dehydrates your body & that could cause a throbbing headache
- Another cause is hormonal changes caused by the alcohol & the toxic effects alcohol has on your body
- To avoid getting so dehydrated, it might help to drink non-alcholic beverages before & after
you drink hard liquor
WEEKEND HEADACHES?
- You'd think that you'd relax more on the weekend so headaches wouldn't show up
- However, some people who get migraines also get weekend headaches
- A change in your routine can bring the pain
- To avoid pain, stay with your schedule & off of caffeine,during the week & on the weekend if that's a trigger for you
MARITAL RELATIONS HEADACHES?
- These type of headaches are rare
- You should see your doctor if the pain hits you like a thunderclap at climax
- You doctor can rule out anything serious like a ruptured blood vessel & help with the pain
- These headaches are usually not serious but it's good to check them out
HOW LONG SHOULD YOUR HEADACHE LAST?
- Sometimes cluster headaches last only for a few minutes but they, along with sinus
headaches usually last for a couple of hours - Tension & migraine headaches are the kind that can sometimes last for days at a time
CAN TOO MUCH HEADACHE MEDICINE CAUSE EXTRA HEADACHES?
- Rebound headaches can be triggered when you've taken headache medication frequently
- You take medicine to feel better & then you get a rebound headache when the medication wears off
- It's important to take medicine only as directed

2. How often you take it - If you're getting a lot of headaches, talk to your doctor about ways to prevent headaches, including medication
WILL A DARK ROOM RELIEVE YOUR HEADACHE?
- Try these other home remedies to relieve some headache pain
- Relax tense neck, shoulder & back muscles
- Use a heating pad or an ice pack where it aches Or try the back of your neck, forehead, or
your temple - Gently massage your temples or neck
- Take a soothing warm shower
CAN ACUPUNCTURE RELIEVE YOUR HEADACHES?
- Some studies have shown that it is an effective as painkillers in relieving tension & migraine headaches
- However, 2 large studies showed that 'real' acupuncture had about the same effect as 'fake' acupuncture in easing headache pain

2. Headache after recently having been hit in the head which could be a sign of a concussion
3. Headache accompanied by numbness or tingling in your arms or legs or confusions which
could be signs of a stroke
