TO AVOID DISEASES

THERE MAY BE ADDITIONAL
VACCINES REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN LOCATIONS SUCH AS
- For a tropical or jungle area - Yellow fever vaccine
- For Africa, Asia & Latin America - There is no vaccine for Malaria but a travel medicine specialist could prescribe medications that are effective in preventing Malaria

GETTING VACCINATED
- Some health care plans have a specific department
dedicated to assisting you in being
sure you have protection when traveling outside the US - Urgent Care clinics don't carry the vaccines required
- Finding a private doctor who gives all the different vaccinations is no simple task
& is
expensive

SENIORS & KIDS 12 AND UNDER
ARE THE MOST VULNERABLE WITHOUT SHOTS
- Stick with bottled water OR use filtering devices & tablets OR boil the water
- Don't eat raw vegetables & fruits if they don't have thick skin, rinds or peels
- Be aware of everything you eat & drink so you can avoid traveler's diarrhea
- Even with all your preparation & caution, you may still get sick from parasites
or fungal infections - Go to an emergency room or an urgent care clinic, if you have unusual symptoms,
especially at the same time you have diarrhea such as
1. Harsh stomach aches
2. A swelling on the back of your tongue
3. An unusually or abnormally rapid or violent beating of your heart

INSURANCE
You may have travel insurance & health insurance
but if you travel outside the US & are injured or ill that's not enough
- Urgent care clinics may take a credit card or demand cash
- Hospitals expect full payment for any surgical procedure or hospital stay for disease
- Giving them your health insurance information will not make a difference
even if you
manage to have them connect with your health provider - To protect yourself, purchase Medical Travel Insurance before you leave the US
