COFFEE MAKERS
- Those that are used with chametz (some brands of coffee contain chametz), can't be
kashered - If a coffee maker was used in the presence of chametz, they are kashered by filling them
with water, boiling the water & causing it to overflow by adding a hot stone or piece of metal - The spout should be cleaned & kashered with pouring (Iru'i) on the outside & on the inside
by the expulsion of the boiling water.
OVENS
- Ovens should be thoroughly cleansed with a chemical oven cleaner & carefully inspected
with a flashlight - Then burning (Libbun) is done with a blowtorch
- If the flame may puncture gas lines, an alternate method may be preferred
- After cleaning, the oven should not be used for 24 hours & then left at maximum
heat for an hour - The racks (that have already been kashered) can be left inside while this is done
- The trays in the broiler section, (which have had direct contact with food), require complete burning (Libbun) or replacement
- Some authorities hold that ovens should be lined with aluminum inserts
- A self-cleaning oven is kashered by running it through the self-cleaning cycle
- A continuous cleaning oven is to be treated as if it were a regular oven
MICROWAVE OVENS
- Sshould be cleaned & then not used for 24 hours
- A container of boiling water should be left in the oven until it is filled with dense steam
- As an additional precaution, food should be placed in closed microwave-friendly containers
for Passover cooking
GAS & ELECTRIC RANGES
- Clean the burners, grates & pans
- Clean the area between the burners
- Turn on the heat to maximum.
- Leave the heat on for 5 minutes for an electric range
- Leave the heat on for 15 minutes for a gas range
- After the grates are glowing, cover the pans below the grates with aluminum foil
- Newer types of electric ranges have glazed surfaces over the “burners”
1. Wash the glazed surface thoroughly
2. Place a metal pan (blech) over the surface
3. Place an unlit match on the blech away from the burners
4. Turn the heat on to maximum
5. As soon as the match ignites, the range has been kashered
PROGRAMMING DIGITAL
COOKING & BAKING APPLIANCES
