HOW TO CLEAN STAINS
Fruit Stains, Clothes, Upholstery & Carpet

WHAT'S A FRUIT STAIN?
There are plenty of stains that fall into this category
- Food products that contain fruit products including candies, cookies & pastries
- Fruit juices of all types including apple, orange, cranberry, cherry & other types of fruit juices
- Fresh fruit that has been dropped onto clothing, the carpeting & upholstery that is either smashed or has left a mark

CARPET
- Mix 1 T of liquid hand dishwashing detergent with 2 C of cool water
- Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent solution
- Blot until the liquid is absorbed
- Repeat Steps 2 & 3 until the stain disappears or is no longer absorbed into the cloth
- If the stain remains, mix 1 T of ammonia with 2 C of cold water
(Caution: Never mix chlorine bleach & ammonia - the resulting fumes are hazardous) - Sponge the stain with the ammonia solution
- Blot until the liquid is absorbed
- Sponge with cold water & blot dry.
FABRIC
- Flush stain with cool water
- Mix 1 T of white vinegar & 1/2 t of liquid laundry detergent with one quart
of cool water - Soak in this solution for 15 minutes & rinse with water
- If the stain remains, sponge with rubbing alcohol & rinse thoroughly
- Launder, using chlorine bleach, if safe for the fabric
- Red soda is common stain that has destroyed many an article of clothing
- Keep the stain moist & run under cold water just as soon as possible
- Start by mixing a small amount of ammonia with cold water
- Dab the ammonia and water solution onto the stain with a clean white paper towel
- If the stain seems set & is not coming out, take some plain salt & sprinkle it directly onto the stained area
- Use a paper towel to gently rub it in the stain
- Now dab more if the ammonia & water mix on the stain
- Then place a new paper towel on the stain & gently rub it in
- Wash & dry as usual with cold water
Red Punch & Red Soda On Clothing
UPHOLSTERY
- Mix 1 T of liquid hand dishwashing detergent with 2 C of cool water
- Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent solution
- Blot until the liquid is absorbed
- Repeat Steps 2 & 3 until the stain disappears or is no longer absorbed into the cloth
- If the stain remains, mix 1 Tof white vinegar with 2/3 cup of rubbing alcohol
- Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the vinegar/alcohol solution
- Blot until the liquid is absorbed
- Repeat Steps 6 & 7 until the stain disappears
- Sponge with cold water & blot dry

Food Stains
Blood Stains or Protein Stains
- Soak up any excess blood on the fabric
- Rinse it immediately with cold water until the stain is gone
- Don't use hot water or the blood will set firmly in the fabric.
Coffee or Tea Stains
- Coffee is a very tough stain
- First get a clean dry towel & cover the spill trying to remove as much of the liquid as possible
- Then get a new towel & moisten it with cold water
- Dab the stain to get out as much of the stain as possible
- Next place a small amount of white vinegar on a towel & work it into the stain
- Use a laundry pre-treatment stain solution
- Wash the article of clothing as usual in cold water.
Grass Stains
- Grass stains usually happen in the summer
- Take care of this stain quickly
- Use hot water & either laundry or dish washing detergent & work it in with your finger tip
- Rinse the stain in hot water
- Then wash the article of clothing as usual
Grease and Oil Stains
- Greasy oil stains are difficult
- If grease gets on your clothing, get a clean paper towel & absorb any excess oil
- If the grease is solid, scrape off as much as you can
- Place a small amount of the bestdish washing detergent
- Use your fingertips to work it in
- Use a stain pre-treatment
- Then launder as usual
