HALF A DOLLAR
Machtzit Hashekel
The custom is that men give 3 half dollars
before the reading of the megillah
after mincha on the Fast of Esther (Taanis Esther).
- Some give for every male child over 13, some give for every male child
& some give for an unborn child. - This is to remember the Half Shekel given to the Temple as we pray for its restoration.
- If you miss the opportunity to do this before megillah reading at night, you
may do it before the daytime reading on Purim day.

SENDING GIFTS
Misho'lach Manos
- This Purim mitzvah requires every family member to send gifts of 'ready to eat' food & drink to two of their relatives, friends or neighbors.
- You do not 'hand' the Shalach Manos directly to the person but instead have someone else, even your kids, deliver it for .
- Instead of sending food baskets, you can give charity in honor
of your friends
& let them know this by sending cards so they know you have done so. - Look below the basket for healthy shalach manos choices.
