ESROG

Esrog is a citrus fruit similar to a lemon, but you can’t squeeze the juices out.
We use the esrog on Succos with the lulav.

Jewish superstition connects esrog jelly to pregnancy & fertility.
Some say it eases labor pains, helps a woman get pregnant &
can be eaten any time during pregnancy for health & luck.

ESROG RECIPE

Esrog can be made into esrog jelly or jam

Unlike other citrus fruits, the esrog has a small amount of pulp
so you'll need a lot of esrogim to make esrog jelly.

  1. Soak your esrogim for a week changing the water ocassionally
  2. Chop the esrogim & remove the seeds.
  3. Discard the ends & the stem (pitom) but keep the peel
  4. Grind it in a food processor
  5. Simmer the esrog pieces in water for about 30 minutes & strain.
  6. Put the fruit back into the pot & heat on high.
  7. Stir in orange marmalade & add the sugar 1/3 cup at a time mixing until it is mixed thoroughly
  8. Continuously stir the mixture until it boils & it becomes too tough to stir
  9. Place the mixture into a jar & seal
  10. Refrigerate
