TRAVELING BY AIRPLANE
If the airport is located outside the city
- You say Tefilas Haderech in the car, taxi or bus that is taking you to the airport.
- This should be said once you are outside the city limits & not after takeoff
If the airport is located within the city limits,
then one should wait to say Tefilas Haderech until after takeoff
TRAVELING BY
BUS, CAR OR TRAIN
- You say this prayer when you leave the city limits
- You may say this prayer during the days you are traveling in the area with the closing bracha (blessing)
- But if you don't travel in the area there is no need to say this prayer every day of your trip
TRAVELING BY SHIP
- You should also wait until the ship is beyond the city limits
- If you say Tefilas Haderech before leaving, either before boarding or while on the ship, you have fulfilled your obligation
- If there are no stops which involve being on land for the night, you should say this prayer every day of the trip without the closing bracha (blessing)
THIS PRAYER IS SAID ONCE A DAY
EVEN IF YOU ARE
- Going round trip in the same day
- Making a temporary stop for resting or sightseeing & then continuing on your trip
IF YOU FORGET
TO SAY THIS PRAYER
- You may say it with the bracha (blessing) at any time during the rest of your trip unless you're very close to your destination
- If you're very close to your destination & you realize you forgot to say this prayer, you can say
it without the closing bracha (blessing)
