TRUTH ABOUT
YEAR ROUND TRAVEL
WHAT HOTELS & TOUR OPERATORS DON'T TELL YOU
HANDICAPPED ROOMS
- Not all handicapped rooms have walk-in or roll-in showers
- Many hotels place their handicapped room close to exits & this usually makes the rooms
a long walk from the elevator
HOUSEKEEPING
In order to reduce costs &/or to go 'green,' many hotel chains have
- Installed electronic motion sensors in the bathrooms which turn off the light
when they do not sense movement in the bathroom - Installed electronic motion sensors in rooms & suites that will automatically cause the light
you have purposely left on to go off after a certain time has passed - usually 30 minutes - Installed electronic monitoring devices in rooms that send a signal to housekeeping
to alert them when you have left your room so they can send someone to clean it - Have the closet light go on when you open the closet & go off when you close the closet
- A policy to change bed linens every 3 days
for guests staying
3 days or longer
SAFETY
- Some hotels have huge lobbies with several exit doors some of which are open all day long
- Parents of small children might not feel their children are safe unless an adult is with them
RESORT FEE
- Most hotels charge a Resort Fee which covers costs of Wi-Fi, entrance to the Spa, etc
- If you are traveling on your own, the front desk personel will inform you of the fee
- However, if you travel with a group, not all tour operators include this fee in their contracts
- You may find this fee on your bill at checkout
WAKE UP CALLS
- Most hotels have an automated system for wake up calls
- The phone will ring until you pick it up If you do not pick up the phone, eventually
a hotel staff member will come to knock on your door to be sure everything is all right
