AN AD SHOWED
A resort on the ocean making you think that you can swim in the ocean.
THE TRUTH
You can see the ocean from some of the rooms.
However, the hotel overlooks a cliff that drops straight into the ocean
so there's no beach there, which means you can't swim there.
If you're looking for a hotel with a beach,
Kosher Woman advises you to contact the hotel
to make sure that you're close enough to walk to the beach.

AN AD SHOWED
A resort on the ocean.
THE TRUTH
The Passover Program is at an inland hotel
with the same brand as the
hotel pictured in the ad.
WHAT THE WEBSITE SAYS
Listed under Recreation & Activities, they say they have an Ocean & Beach.
THE TRUTH
Not everyone will realize that you have to click on Ocean & Beach
in order to find out that the Ocean & Beach are 2 1/2 hour drive from the hotel.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD SAID
We're minutes away from ......
THE TRUTH
Minutes can mean anything from 1 minute to 59 minutes to 90 minutes or more.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Ask the hotel or use map quest to find out the truth.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD IMPLIED
A black & white ad showed a hotel on a cliff
with what looked like the ocean below.
TRUTH
If you give the ad a 'second' look you will see that's it's really a golf course.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD IMPLIED
The ad showed the pool & grounds with a view of the ocean in the background.
WHAT THE HOTEL SAID
The hotel is inland but you can see
the ocean from a distance
by the pool & in the lobby.
It's a 3 mile walk & an 8-10 minute drive to the ocean.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD SAID
We have X amount of acres
OR we have spacious grounds.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
If anyone traveling with you
has a problem with walking,
you need to find out how far your room
is from the dining room, synagogue,
outdoor barbeques, etc.
The hotel may have no rooms in their 'main building'
where the dining room & synagogue are located.
If all the rooms are outside of the 'main building,'
you need to find out if the walk is on
cement, grass or sandy/dirt pathways.
The reception desk at the hotel
is your best source for all of the above information.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD SAID
Everything is in one building.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
If anyone traveling with you
has a problem with walking,
you need to find out how far your room
is from the dining room, synagogue,
outdoor barbeques, etc.
Some buildings are 'wide' so being in the same
building doesn't mean you're
close to the dining room & synagogue.
WHAT THE AD SAID
Every room with an Ocean View has a balcony & or a patio
WHAT THE HOTEL SAID
There are no ocean view rooms or suites

WHAT THE AD SAID
We are selling out the whole hotel for 2nd consecutive year.
TRUTH
Last year, the tour operator did advertise
for the entire hotel.
Reservations were not progressing as expected
so they gave back some of the rooms.
Reservations improved & they did have a large crowd
but they didn't sell the whole hotel.
- The hotel maintained a non-Kosher restaurant while the Passover Program was there.
- The hotel kitchen was also divided into a Kosher Kitchen section & a non-Kosher section.
- The guests who wanted a program where the entire hotel was Kosher For Passover
were very upset.
This year the tour operator has a NEW location.
Again, they advertised that the whole hotel
would be Kosher for Passover.
TO BE SURE
Check with the hotel

WHAT THE AD SAID
A tour operator advertised both programs
they'd hosted the previous year.
WHAT HAPPENED
A few weeks before Passover,
the guests who paid to go to 1 of the hotels
were told that the hotel had a new owner
& the new owner didn't want
to do a Passover program.
The guests were given incentives to go to the other hotel
which was in another state & at least a a 4 hour drive
from the hotel where they had originally reserved
Our research team found no evidence that the hotel was sold.
What we did find was that the city had an event
on the last weekend of Passover
& that all hotels in that city were bound
by a city-wide rule
that they couldn't take any other groups.
This information about the city-wide event
was already public in the fall before this program was advertised.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD SAID
they've been hosting Passover for the last couple of years.
WHAT HAPPENED
The program was cancelled about a month before Passover.
Guests were told by the tour operator
that the tour was cancelled because
they hadn't payed the prior year's bill yet.
Guests scrambled to find another program.
♦♦♦♦♦
WHAT THE AD SAID
A low priced 'black hat' program
people attended for a couple of years
advertised in a way that indicated the program would be similar to past years.
The tour operator took deposits
from guests who were not 'black hat.'
Word got out that the program
was no longer a 'black hat' program.
Reservations were slow.
The tour operator told reserved guests
that
the program would take place anyway.
WHAT HAPPENED
After Purim, the guests were notified
that the program was cancelled.
Arrangements were made for them
to attend another program
a couple thousand miles
from the location of the first program.
