SYMPTOMS
You may have no symptoms but if you do have some they would be
- Body Aches
- Eye pain (rarely)
- Fever
- Headache
- Skin Rash (on trunk of your body)
- Swollen lymph glands
- Tiredness
These symptoms can last for a few days or for as long as several weeks

SYMPTOMS
In addition to the symptoms for West Nile Fever listed above,
you may have some or all of these symptoms
- High fever
- Neck stiffness
- Stupor
- Disorientation
- Coma
- Tremors
- Convulsions
- Muscle weakness
- Paralysis
Those most at risk for developing
a more severe form of the disease are
- People over 50
- Cancer patients
- Diabetics
- Those with Kidney disease
- Transplant patients

- Encephalitis
- Meningitis

PREVENTION
- Spray mosquito repellent to exposed skin (not your clothes) containing DEET making sure it
will last as long as you are outdoors - Spray clothing (not your body) with repellents containing permethrin or other EP registered repellents
- Try to wear thick clothing that covers your entire body
- Don’t go outside at dawn or dusk (in the hour before darkness falls)
- If you have a pool keep it covered from when it's not being used & make sure it's covered
from before dusk to after dawn - Make sure kiddie pools are emptied of water after usage & turned upside down
- Clean out your rain gutters
- Make sure your garbage cans are shut
- Repair your screens so mosquitos can't come into your home
- Keep windows & doors closed as much as possible
- Empty water that collects in your yard in flower pots, children’s toys, wagons, buckets,
barrels & cans - Place mosquito netting over strollers & infant seats when you are outdoors
- Stay away from standing water in parts or empty lots
- Report dead birds to your local health department
- Doctors recommend that kids going to summer sleep-away camp & college students take
the Meningitis shot
