HAIR CARE
FOR TEENS - SENIORS
TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS
Don't damage your hair
- Avoid coloring your hair with any product with peroxide
- Don't use your blow dryer &/or straightening want every day
- Don't use the hot setting on your blow dryer or straigtening wand
- When you wash your hair comb it out gently with thick tines that are spaced apart as
shown in the picture below
Eat healthy
- Make sure you daily vitamins include A, C & E plus B7 (biotin), zinc, iron & folic acid
- Don't skimp on protein
THE PREGNANCY YEARS
Don't panic
- You're not going to lose hair during your pregnancy
- 3-4 months after each birth, you're going to lose all the hair you should have lost during the pregnancy
Other reasons for excessive hair loss during these years can come from
- Dieting & losing too much weight
- Stopping your birth control pills
- Not having enough iron in your diet
- High fevers
AT 40 SERIOUS CHANGES BEGIN
To help with thinner hair
- Try 2 % Rogaine (minoxidil) but don't expect results for 6 months & only continues to work
if you continue using it - Give your hair a layered cut
- Take Biotin (B7) capsules daily
To help with wiry &/or gray hair
- Gray roots are more obvious along a straight part so try parting your hair a different way
to add volume & hide your roots - Color your hair at your local beauty shop
- Color your hair at home with semi-permanent colors rather than those with peroxide
like Clairol Nice & Easy Root Touch Up ($ 7.99 but often goes on sale). - Try some highlights which may help gray hairs blend in & take attention away from your roots
- For a quick fix inbetween coloring your hair, try Gray Away spray (in the TV products
section of your Pharmacy) or Root Concealer - When coloring your roots, choose a shade that’s slightly lighter than the rest of your color for a more natural look.
- Don't use straightening wands & curling irons every day & when you do use them,
use low settings
Washing Hair
- If possible, wash your hair only once a week
- Try a dry shampoo with rice starch to improve limp hair if you need to wash your hair
more than once a week - To avoid dull, coarse & fly away hair, shampoo your scalp not the hair
- Soap up & rinse only once
- Use a serum that contains Ginko Biloba & vitamins B5 & B6 to stimulate the scalp,
improve thickness & slow down the graying process
Keep hair at collar length
- It’s the most universally flattering length
- It can help hide an aging neck.
Don’t skip out on styling short hair
- To look its most youthful, hair should be polished and sleek.
Tweak your hair color
- As we age, our skin becomes lighter & more translucent
- Make sure the color you have works with your complexion
Look for anti-aging haircare products
with the newest helpful ingredients
- Niacidamide
- Caffeine
Be open to change
If you’ve had same hair style & color for the last 10 years,
it’s time for a fresh look.
